Discover

Some people lose diamonds in the search of stones

The discovery phase is the first expedition you undertake into yet unknown realms, in order to get to know your customer, the users and the product to be. In this phase, I like to work with UX-Researchers and define methods and techniques to acquire the knowledge necessary to develop a fitting concept.

Define

Nothing is carved in stone

In this phase it is time for first decisions and for setting the course of the project progression. Demands and requirements are being defined in this phase. I set objectives focusing on the perspective of the user as well as the UX-Design and the conceptual framework. In close collaboration with the team and the customer, I use specific methods to define the overall goals and first visions.

Design

sink like a stone

Now it’s time to turn visions into reality. This is the phase of formulating the guiding idea behind the project. Together with all different departments, the overall product vision, its design, its function and its usability are defined. It’s where we turn each stone to see what we find underneath. It’s trial and error and trial again. We develop storyboards, wire frames, design patterns and systems, templates, all within a rapid prototype and testing workflow.

Constant dripping wears the stone

Grab a hammer and chisel and mold the stone. In this phase we make the sculpture. All decisions concerning the concept and the design will be documented and summarized in a digital style guide consisting of guidelines for style, UI, UX and Visual Design. It is most important to keep the guidelines clear and flexible at the same time, in order to keep everything applicable to the different digital media in use.

Distribute

a rolling stone gathers no moss

Teaching how to throw. The distribution-phase requires a lot of patience, empathy and a good sense of education, because now the product will be put in the hands of different teams or the customers' company. However, it’s not yet time to leave this stage. It is equally important to keep space for further development and regular monitoring.
